Scarecrow Magic
Scarecrow Magic by Ed Masessa is similar to the popular story Snowmen at Night. When the moon comes out, the scarecrow and his ghoulish friends come to life. What sort of fun will they have? This book perfectly lends itself to create your own class story about what scarecrows do at night!
Scarecrow
Scarecrow beautifully describes the life of a scarecrow in a way that only Cynthia Rylant could do. A perfect mentor text to use during writing workshop to work on descriptive stories.
The Little Scarecrow Boy
The Little Scarecrow Boy by Margaret Wise Brown is the story of a young scarecrow who isn’t quite grown enough yet to be able to scare any crows. His father tells him he needs to wait till he grows to be fierce enough. It is a heartwarming coming-of-age story that centers around a father’s support and encouragement.
Otis and the Scarecrow
In Otis and the Scarecrow by Loren Long, Otis the tractor, and the other farm animals notice a new addition to the field. They go to greet the scarecrow but are met only with a frown. As a result, they leave the scarecrow alone and continue their fun together. But one rainy day, Otis can’t stop staring at the scarecrow and thinking about how he must feel. What will Otis do next? Loren Long also wrote other popular Otis books: Otis, Otis and the Puppy, Otis and the Tornado, and more!
The Not-So-Scary Scarecrow
The Not-So-Scary Scarecrow by Mamie Tauk tells the story of Jack the Scarecrow who thinks he has to be scary. Eventually, he realizes that just because he’s a scarecrow, he doesn’t have to be scary which leads to unexpected friendships!
Lonely Scarecrow
Lonely Scarecrow by Tim Preston is similar to Otis and the Scarecrow in that they both feature a scarecrow without any friends. But one day a snowstorm transforms the scarecrow. Will he finally be able to make friends?
The Scarecrow’s Hat
The Scarecrow’s Hat by Ken Brown is a circular tale about a clever chicken who really wants the scarecrow’s hat. The scarecrow asks for a walking stick in return for the hat. So even though the chicken doesn’t have one, she knows someone who does! But each animal she asks wants something in return. Will she ever get the scarecrow’s hat?
